Cathleen M. Keating concentrates her practice in the real estate, municipal and estate planning/probate areas. As Village Attorney for the Village of La Grange Park, Ms. Keating handles a wide variety of general municipal, regulatory, personnel, intergovernmental and land use/zoning matters.

She counsels clients in the acquisition, sale and financing of commercial and residential real estate developments and appears before village boards on a variety of land use and zoning matters (e.g., planned developments, annexations, variations, rezonings and special uses). She handles a wide variety of buy/sell transactions, negotiates leases (both for landlords and tenants) and resolves municipal and real estate disputes.

She works closely with lending institutions and borrowers on commercial loans and loan workouts, and regularly represents entities acquiring troubled assets or commercial paper from lenders.

Ms. Keating also counsels individuals and families on a variety of estate planning, trust administration and probate issues. In addition, she represents both individuals and charitable organizations in estate administration, estate accounting, asset liquidation and contested probate matters and has handled many cases in the Appellate and Illinois Supreme Courts.

Ms. Keating received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Teaching of Social Studies with departmental distinction from the University of Illinois in 1977 and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1980. She is a member of the Illinois and DuPage County Bar Associations. She has been with the firm of Martin, Craig, Chester & Sonnenschein LLP since 1980 and a Partner since 1987.

Ms. Keating's article "Liability For and Defenses Against Fiduciary Misappropriation," published in the Illinois Bar Journal, in February 1984, was awarded first place in the Lincoln Award Legal Writing Contest sponsored by the Illinois State Bar Association. She has also written an article for the Illinois Reporter, September 1989, entitled "Post Judgment Collection Proceedings."

Ms. Keating is currently a member of several community and school organizations, including the Kenyon College Parent Advisory Council. She has previously served as a member of the Board of Education for LaGrange School District 102, the LaGrange Park Zoning Board of Appeals, St. Ignatius Rowing Club Parent Board and the Chicago Metropolitan Savings Institutions Attorneys' Committee. Born in Chicago in 1955, she resides in LaGrange Park with her husband and two college-age children.
